Customer Review :
EXTREMELY effective with parallel circuit : Hayden Automotive 678 Rapid-Cool Plate and Fin Transmission Cooler
Put this on my son's 1998 Saturn. Ran parallel with radiator lines using tees w/ straight thru legs in line with this cooler and side legs to 'old' radiator lines. You can put a ball valve anywhere within new cooler loop, BUT definitely, before tee to return side of old radiator. Can throttle back in winter to send 'some' flow thru old radiator to avoid over-cooled trans AND set wide open in summer for max trans cooling. NO MORE over-heating. NOW = smooth trans shifts, even w/ A/C full on.
You can route the tees different (side legs to new cooler) to dynamically force some flow thru 'old' radiator, but then you will sacrifice max cooling. You might be able to leave out the $9 ball (throttle) valve.
BTW - - Running in series is decidedly limited and not controllable(may as well just buy a different & LARGER / RE-placement radiator. IF you can get one!).
P.S. DEFINITELY go outside and put some lock-ease / rust remover on your radiator trans cooler fittings NOW (today) __ and tomorrow, too. at least the LOWER one. "You will thank me, later!!!"
